Summary of Position:

• Ferris State University’s Department of Humanities seeks applications for an Assistant Professor in Philosophy and Religious Studies.
• The selected candidate will teach a variety of courses in Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics. Other teaching assignments in the Department's “Humanities Area,” will be based upon the candidate's teaching credentials, which may include; African American Studies, Humanities Studies, Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and/or other closely related fields.
• Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses or online. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.
• The start date for this position is August 2025.

Required Education:

• Ph.D. in Philosophy (or ABD with Ph.D. completion by August 1, 2025), and graduate coursework in Religious Studies and/or the Philosophy of Religion.
OR
• Ph.D. in in Religious Studies and/or the Philosophy of Religion (or ABD with Ph.D. degree completion by August 1, 2025), and graduate coursework in Philosophy.

Required Work Experience:

• Demonstrated expertise in Religious Studies and/or the Philosophy of Religion
• Demonstrated expertise in Philosophy
• Two years part-time is equivalent to one year full-time.
• Demonstrated expertise in Ethics

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:

• Prior experience teaching undergraduate courses in Religious Studies and/or the Philosophy of Religion, Philosophy or Ethics.
• Ability to teach other courses in the Department’s “Humanities Area.”

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Teach a variety of courses in Religious Studies, Philosophy, and Ethics.
• Teach other courses in the Department's “Humanities Area,” which may include; African American Studies, Humanities Studies, Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, or other closely related fields.
• Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which include; advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (i.e. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).
• Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
• Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
• Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
• Contributing to the scholarly community.
• Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
