Job Description
A Baldwin & Co. team member will contribute to the success of the store by sharing their knowledge of books, coffee, and community, all while selling our products and preparing specialty drinks. They must relate easily to others to build rapport and collaborative relationships with customers and staff. The team member will acknowledge, greet, and effectively listen to customers to ensure prompt and courteous service.
Applicants MUST be available on weekends and evenings.
Duties

1. Greet customers entering the store and provide exceptional customer service with each transaction.
2. Answer questions and assist customers with special inquiries and selections regarding books, coffee, food, and retail items.
3. Operate café equipment, including, but not limited to brewers, grinders, ovens, espresso machines, and cash registers.
4. Safely prepare hot and cold coffee, drinks, and other specialty items.
5. Verbally receive and call back customer orders in a friendly manner.
6. Accurately ring sales orders into point of sale system (POS) and count back change to customers.
7. Coordinate merchandising of inventory to reflect promotions and bookstore events and maintain attractive displays of books and retail items.
8. Receive, store, and shelve new merchandise and supplies, and perform monthly inventory.
9. Re-shelve books and stock retail and food service inventory.
10. Complete ongoing daily cleaning of all surfaces, machinery, bar and customer areas.
11. Wash dishes, sweep, mop, clean bathrooms, and complete other tasks as required.
12. Comply with food safety handling laws.
13. Assist customers with questions about local sites of interest and tourist destinations.
14. Assist with author signings and special events.
15. Balance the cash drawer following each shift.
16. Answer telephone in a courteous and friendly manner, including but not limited to giving store greeting, directions to store location, and receiving and filling customer orders.
17. Follow all opening and closing procedures and maintain a safe workplace.
18. Report potential safety hazards and all customer and employee accidents to the supervisor.
19. Respond proactively to prevent customer service situations and report all complaints to the supervisor.
20. Perform all other duties as requested or directed.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Previous Barista experience is preferred.

4. Prioritizes tasks independently and takes initiative.
5. Learns new computer and POS systems quickly.
6. Stays well-organized and detail-oriented with all guest services.
7. Possesses proficient math, keyboarding, and data entry skills.
8. Displays excellent communication skills.
9. Works well as part of a team.
10. Understands and can carry out verbal and written instructions and request clarification when needed.
11. Able to stand, walk, and lift items (up to 30 lbs.) on a regular basis.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and one to three years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position. Days and hours will vary to include evening and weekend work according to business needs. Flexibility in schedule is required.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The key physical requirements of this position include the ability to walk and stand for an extended period of time, bending, stooping, able to lift up to 30 pounds, and the use of standard kitchen and specialized coffee equipment.
