Job Description

Weld assembly plating as specified by the client. Weld fabricated cast or forged components according to specifications. Knowledge of welding characteristics of metal. Welds parts in position for fabrication of vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies. Uses carbon electrodes to cut, shape, and groove metal. May prepare workplace for welding by cleaning and/or pre-heating. Examines weld sizes of weld beads. Cleans weld area, sweeps, and remove scrap. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

Minimum three years of journeyman level experience. Must be able to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 in three positions. Knowledge of welding characteristics of metal. Must comprehend written and verbal instructions in English. Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.

Required Education and Experience

• High school education/equivalent preferred.
• Knowledge of shipbuilding processes and procedures preferred.
• Must have at least 3 years previous welding experience.

Assessment Must be able to qualify in the following welding processes:

• Carbon Steel - FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) Welding process in the horizontal, vertical and overhead position (2G, 3G and 4G) with fillet, V-groove butt joints and ceramic butt joints.
• All plates will be assessed using the bend and x-ray method.

Unique/Additional Requirements

• Must be able to work all shifts and at heights.
• Must show at least two years of continuous, stable and verifiable employment.
• Construction or manufacturing background preferred and have strong mechanical skills.
• Frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, occasional kneeling, reclining and finger dexterity.
• Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.
