Our Veterans Affairs (VA) Department is dedicated to fighting for justice on behalf of veterans, ensuring they receive the benefits they are entitled to. As we continue to grow, we are seeking dedicated hearing attorneys to join our team.
As a VA Hearing Attorney, you will:
Handle approximately 15 hearings per month before the Board of Veterans' Appeals (BVA).
Review medical and service records to prepare cases effectively.
Prepare clients for hearings and guide them through the legal process.
Request necessary medical evaluations, records, and expert opinions.
Conduct legal research and draft hearing briefs, post-hearing memoranda, motions, and writs.
Collaborate with your assigned case manager, treating them as a partner rather than an assistant.
Work closely with the VA Supervising Attorney and team to ensure cases are managed effectively.
Technology & Remote Work
This position is fully remote and technology-driven. You must be comfortable using:
Word processing and case management software
Remote collaboration tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Slack
Virtual desktops and shared digital resources
The Board of Veterans' Appeals virtual hearing system
Quick adaptability and problem-solving skills are essential, as technical hurdles may arise during virtual hearings.
Expectations & Workflow
Daily: Review BVA decisions, determine the need for appeals, communicate with clients, and electronically sign outgoing correspondence.
Weekly: Participate in a team Zoom meeting with your case manager and attend the weekly attorney Zoom meeting.
Monthly: Conduct thorough case reviews, prepare for and present 15 BVA hearings, hold client preparation calls, and draft necessary legal memoranda.
Qualifications
Licensed to practice law in any U.S. state or territory.
VA accreditation preferred.
Experience in Veterans Disability or Social Security law is a plus.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent legal research abilities.
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
