Job Description

Overview:

Are you passionate about dance and excited to inspire young dancers? Do you want to create an engaging, creative, and supportive environment for kids to express themselves through
movement? If so, we want you to join us as a Program Leader at our Dance Camp! At Dance Camp, campers will explore ballet, jazz, and routine rehearsals, all while twisting, twirling, and building confidence. Alongside their dance training, they'll enjoy arts, crafts, games, and snacks throughout the day. Each week culminates in a short performance for families to showcase their progress.
This year, Dance Camp will be traveling to each of our YMCA branches every two weeks, giving campers the opportunity to experience a variety of locations and activities. As a Program Leader, you’ll travel with your team from one branch to the next, ensuring a seamless and fun camp experience for all campers!

● Training: Required training will take place from May 19-23, 2025.
● No Weekends: Enjoy your weekends free!
● Seasonal Position: May 27th through August 8th, with opportunities to extend into school year programs (before and after school care).

The YMCA was founded as the Young Men's Christian Association in 1844. But today, we are The Y, an association that values and is made stronger by its diverse people. At the YMCA of Northern Colorado, we are committed to equal opportunity employment regardless of gender, age, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation.

Responsibilities:

● Lead Dance Activities: Assist in teaching dance classes, including ballet and jazz technique, ensuring all campers are engaged and have fun while learning dance fundamentals.
● Support Performance Prep: Help campers practice and rehearse routines, encouraging teamwork, creativity, and confidence as they prepare for the weekly performance.
● Foster Creativity & Expression: Create a positive and supportive environment where campers feel free to express themselves through movement and creativity.
● Assist in Class Management: Help manage class activities, providing guidance and support to ensure smooth transitions between classes and other camp activities.
● Promote Positive Discipline: Use positive reinforcement and encouragement to guide behavior, foster teamwork, and help campers develop discipline and respect for one another.
● Ensure Camper Safety & Well-being: Monitor camper safety during all activities, ensuring they are physically and emotionally safe while dancing and participating in other camp activities.
● Support Arts & Crafts: Assist campers with dance-related crafts and activities that allow them to express their creativity outside of dance class.
● Assist with Show Preparation: Help with logistics and organization leading up to the final performance, including costume adjustments, set-up, and supporting campers on stage.
● Maintain Open Communication: Foster positive relationships with campers, parents, and other staff, providing updates on campers' progress and any important information.
● Flexibility & Adaptability: Be flexible with scheduling, activities, and camper needs. Adapt your approach to support different learning styles and ensure every camper has a positive experience.

Qualifications:

● Must be 18 years or older.
● Previous experience teaching or assisting with dance classes, especially ballet or jazz, is preferred.
● Provide documentation of 480 hours of experience working directly with school-age children in such areas as Sunday school, Scouts, or sports.
● Enthusiastic, creative, and dependable, with a passion for working with kids and a love for dance.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with campers, parents, and other staff members.
● CPR and First Aid certification (we can provide this).
● A positive attitude, patience, and the ability to inspire and encourage children of all skill levels.

Benefits:

  • (10+ hours/week) Free Family Membership
  • (10+ hours/week) Program discounts
  • Generous retirement benefits - 12% after eligibility is met
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid Sick Time
