Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Physical Security Specialist is responsible for performing security procedures, conducting vulnerability and site assessments, crafting security standards and guidelines, managing electronic security platforms, estimating security project needs, and advancing findings or issues as required. This role involves key security tasks, security vendor management, and security infrastructure controls. The position requires 24/7 availability and may necessitate responding to incidents anywhere in North America.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Contribute to the strategic vision and direction for the physical security portfolio
  • Ensure the efficiency and measure the success of physical security controls across CPKC
  • Evaluate and extend guidelines to ensure strict compliance with physical security policies and standards in design, construction, rehabilitation, and related projects
  • Maintain corporate security policies, including the security management plan
  • Research and identify the need for new or updated policies and standards to address changing requirements and improve physical security measures
  • Review and approve project drawings, plans, and documents for compliance with security standards
  • Apply risk management methodology to assess threat levels against security standards, balancing security costs against risks and crafting vulnerability assessments
  • Develop and maintain physical security guidelines for all corporate locations
  • Audit CCTV footage for incident review and to ensure compliance with security policies and procedures
  • Handle standard work components and special projects related to physical security assessment, design and implementation, threat management casework, policy governance, and quality assurance
  • Undertake any other security responsibilities as assigned by supervisors

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Arts program in Security, Homeland Security, Criminology, or a similar field, or possession of a professional Security, Intelligence, or Criminology Certificate from a recognized college, supplemented by 5 years' relevant experience within the last 6 years.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Physical Security at a large or Multinational corporation
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in managing projects
  • PSP Certification required
  • Ability to acquire appropriate security clearances relevant to the position
  • Experience in conducting security inspections and producing detailed reports for senior management, ensuring industry standards are met across the network
  • Budget management experience for both operating and capital expenditures
  • Experience in the implementation and support of physical access control and surveillance systems
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (advanced knowledge of Word and Excel), SAP, Adobe, and SharePoint
  • Basic project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects concurrently and coordinate with different departments
  • Basic understanding of networking and server technology is an asset
  • Strong understanding and experience with Genetec Security Solutions, Software House CCure 9000, and IP video programming is an asset
