Job Description

Pay Rate: Rate may vary due to local or non-local contracted rates: $70 -75 combined Rate of pay. ( Pay packages are a combination of taxable hourly rates, tax free allowances for travel, housing, and meal allowances) ( Rates are subject to change via client need)

The PICU Nurse/Physician/Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for providing critical care to pediatric patients with life-threatening or complex medical conditions in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The professional will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to monitor, assess, and manage the care of critically ill or injured children. The role requires expertise in pediatric care, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care:

    • Provide continuous monitoring, assessment, and treatment for critically ill or injured pediatric patients.
    • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
    • Perform diagnostic tests and interpret results.
    • Assist with complex procedures such as intubation, chest tube insertion, and other advanced techniques.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting changes in condition and progress.
  2. Collaborative Care:

    • Work closely with physicians, specialists, respiratory therapists, social workers, and other healthcare providers to develop and implement care plans.
    • Communicate effectively with patients' families, providing updates and emotional support.
  3. Emergency Response:

    • Respond promptly to emergencies and life-threatening situations, utilizing resuscitation and stabilization techniques.
    • Participate in emergency drills and be prepared for sudden changes in a patients condition.
  4. Education & Training:

    • Educate families and caregivers on medical conditions, treatments, and aftercare.
    • Stay updated on the latest practices, treatments, and technologies in pediatric intensive care.
  5. Quality & Safety:

    • Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and standards to ensure patient safety and quality of care.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to ongoing efforts to improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (for nurses) or relevant medical degree (for physicians).
    • Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
    • Advanced practice certifications may be required for specific roles (e.g., Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, CRNA).
  • Experience:

    • Previous experience in pediatric critical care or a related healthcare field preferred.
    • For physicians, board certification in Pediatric Critical Care or related subspecialty.
    • Strong knowledge of pediatric diseases, treatments, and protocols.
  • Skills:

    • Expertise in pediatric resuscitation and intensive care.
    • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Licensure/Certification:

    • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), Physician, or relevant advanced practice provider.
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
    • ACLS certification (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) may be required.

  • Ability to work long shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exposure to potential hazards, including infectious diseases and stressful, high-pressure situations.
  • Emotional resilience required to manage critically ill pediatric patients and support their families.
