One of the fastest-growing construction start-ups in 2020 - 2024, our client is rapidly expanding and seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team. Specializing in design-build services for commercial clients, they manage a diverse portfolio of exterior (parking upgrades, EV charger installations) and interior (retrofits, tenant improvements, move-ins/move-outs) projects.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in construction estimation, blueprint analysis, and project financial oversight. The company is experiencing significant growth and seeks a skilled Estimator to help manage its increasing project volume.

Job Title: Estimator/Sr.Estimator 
Salary: $105K - $140K DOE + Bonus Opportunity

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (Could vary depending on business needs)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Estimator/Sr. Estimator will be responsible for overseeing the estimation process for multiple simultaneous construction projects. The role requires expertise in blueprint analysis, quantity take-offs, cost estimation and estimate writing, as well as proficiency in Procore, AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam. The ideal candidate should reside within a 25-mile radius of Westlake Village, CA, as regular on-site visits are required.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY  include but are not limited to:

Estimating & Project Support :

  • Perform quantity take-offs for projects, utilizing both formal blueprints and field measurements.
  • Read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings to ensure accurate cost estimation.
  • Utilize Procore, AutoCAD and Bluebeam to develop, modify, and analyze project blueprints.
  • Assist in pricing and bidding for construction projects, ensuring alignment with financial objectives.
  • Track costs and identify potential budget risks.
  • Communicate with clients, project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers and consultants to clarify scope, materials, and scheduling.
  • Participate in internal estimate reviews and contribute to value engineering solutions.
  • Write the project narrative: Clearly describe the project’s scope, sequencing, and key activities to outline what will happen during the project and how the work will be executed.
  • Assist in the final assembly and presentation of estimates.
  • Maintain organized records of all bid-related information for future reference.
  • Support field operations with change order pricing as needed.
  • Conduct occasional site visits for field verification and client meetings.
  • Expand and manage a portfolio of projects, clients, and leads to drive business growth.

Subcontractor Coordination & Bid Management:

  • Direct, coordinate, and distribute project information to subcontractors and vendors.
  • Prepare contractual exhibits outlining scopes of work for subcontracts.
  • Participate in hard bid/estimating activities, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and vendors to secure competitive pricing and ensure proposal accuracy.
Industry Expertise & Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors to secure a competitive advantage.
  • Foster relationships with internal teams and external clients.
  • Stay current on industry trends, new estimating technologies, and best practices.
  • Expertise in Flat Work and Tenant Improvement projects. 

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field highly preferred and five (5)+ years experience managing the estimation process on construction projects, or coordination or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in business management with a focus on construction.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Strong knowledge of estimating tools and software, including MS Office – Excel and Word, Procore, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and PlanSwift (or equivalent software).
  • Expert ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with stakeholders at all levels.
  • General knowledge of construction principles, processes, and bid strategies (negotiated/hard bids and GMP processes preferred).
  • Nice to have: public works experience, in addition to private work.
COMPUTER SKILLS - Demonstrate the ability to use Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe, Google office suite, and other modern connectivity applications (e.g. Zoom, Slack, Asana) for daily internal communication.

LANGUAGE SKILLS and MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Demonstrate the ability to read, comprehend, and respond appropriately through written or verbal form; demonstrate tactfulness when communicating, including internal communication with staff members of all levels; ability to communicate with a variety of audiences effectively. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all measure units using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

MENTAL DEMANDS - There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant pressure. The incumbent must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.

REGULAR WORK SCHEDULE – Varies depending on business needs; however, the company's regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday.
